Cardio-renal association
Journal Title: Journal of Analytical Bio-Science - Year 2012, Vol 35, Issue 3
Abstract
The cardio-renal association includes the widely known relationship between kidney function and cardiovascular disease (CVD). The interaction between renal and cardiac functions is very important for regulatory functions and hemodynamic control. Therefore, understanding these two important systems is crucial to improving the management of patients with cardio-renal disease. The relationship between the heart and kidneys occurs at multiple levels, including the rennin-angiotensin system, the sympathetic nervous system, and natriuretic peptides. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and CVD share similar etiologic risk factors, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and obesity. The majority of vascular events are caused by accelerated atherosclerosis. If these factors are controlled, then atherosclerotic process evolution, and further target-organ damage or cardiovascular events can be prevented. Therefore, prevention can be carried out not just at the first stage but along the whole continuum. CKD is a novel risk factor included at this stage that accelerates both vascular and cardiac damage.

Clinical state of acute myocardial infarction with increased phosphoglucomutase activity: The relationship between phosphoglucomutase activity and acute thrombosis
Phosphoglucomutase (PGM) is a key enzyme in cellular glucose utilization and energy homeostasis. We previously found that patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) showed high PGM activity, especially those with ST...
Mild acid hydrolysis of sphingolipids yields lysosphingolipids: a matrix-assisted laser desorption and ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry study
The mechanisms underlying the generation of lysosphingolipids remain unclear. The present study investigated whether sphingolipids can be de-N-acylated under relatively mild acidic conditions to produce lysosphingolipids...
Examination of the properties of a monoclonal anti-fibronectin antibody MO
The properties of an anti-fibronectin monoclonal antibody MO which recognizes an epitope on a subpopulation of human neutrophils were examined. The result of an ELISA examination showed that MO specifically bound to immo...
MPO release reaction against activated neutrophils
Against infection, neutrophils form phagosomes in which microorganisms are absorbed by phagocytosis. Then, from the azurophilic granules of neutrophils, Myeloperoxidase (MPO) and granule components are released. In this...
The new technology to improve specificity of immunochromatography
Immunochromatography is one of the assays which are well known and used in clinical setting. To compare with the other assay, its rapidness, easy handling and inexpensive cost are being mentioned for its advantages. Howe...
