Journal Title: Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 7, Issue 1

Abstract

Aim To determine whether vaginal delivery or caesarean delivery is associated with a better neonatal outcome in preterm infants (30–36 weeks). Design All cases admitted to H.M.CH, Labour room between 2014 and 2016 were identified, details of the mother, delivery route, intrapartum monitoring, APGAR score, details of resuscitation of the baby, neonatal progress were noted. Conclusion As compared to vaginal delivery, caesarean delivery was not associated with improved neonatal outcome in preterms rather babies delivered by caesarean section seemed to be at an increased risk of respiratory distress syndrome, and there was no difference in the overall incidence of neurodisabilty detected in preterms in both modes.
