CHANGES IN BODY COMPOSITION AND HEART RATE IN WOMEN AFTER SYSTEMATIC STATIC PHYSICAL EXERTION ON A VIBRAPLATE

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2009, Vol 25, Issue 2

Abstract

Background. The aim of this study was to evaluate tentatively changes in morphological parameters, the BMI index, body mass components and heart rate values following a two-week static exercise on a VIBRA LINE® vibraplate. Material and methods. Female students (N=30), aged 21.0 y. (21±1.0), were examined in this study. The measurements were taken twice (before and after a two-week exercise session) to collect values of body mass, height, circumferences of some parts of the body and skin fold thickness. Body components were marked by the bioimpedance method (using Bodystat 1500 analyzer). During the two-week research, the subjects performed static exercise, 2 minutes daily, on a vibraplate VIBRA LINE® with a frequency of 40 Hz. Heart rate was measured by Sport-Tester 1500, Polar Inc. Results. The vibration intervention with application of meager, short period, slightly body load static exercise on a vibraplate, brought about advantageous results and a favourable effect on body mass and its components. Conclusions. A statistically significant decrease in body mass (p=0.0350), skin fold thickness (skin fold thickness of the abdomen: p=0.0172) and body circumferences (thigh circumference:p=0.0115) was observed. The decrease in fat percentage, lean body mass (LBM) and body water content turned out statistically insignificant. The BMI index value after the battery of exercises also significantly decreased (p=0.0159). A decrease in heart rate (HR) values was noted both during (1min 15s) and after the exercise (2 min), the changes however were statistically insignificant.
