Changes in proline, protein, catalase and germination characteristics of barley seeds under salinity stress

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2013, Vol 5, Issue 10

Abstract

Objective of this study was to evaluation Changes in proline, catalase and germination characteristics of barley seeds under salinity stress. Salinity stress at osmotic potentials of 0 (as control), - 4, -8, -12 and -16 bar were adjusted using NaCl before the start of the experiment. Our results showed that, the effect of salinity levels for all traits was significantly. With, increases of salinity stress germination percentage, germination index and normal seedling percentage reduction. Protein content decreased with the increased in salinity stress. But, the catalase and proline content was minimum at control and increased with increase in salinity stress.
