CHANGES OF ANAEROBIC CAPACITY AFTER TRAINING REALISE EFFORTS OF CONSTANT POWER AT DIFFERENT PEDALLING RATES

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2006, Vol 22, Issue 5

Abstract

Background. The purpose of this research was to examine the effect of training sessions performed on cycloergometer, with equal energy expenditure, constant power output (250 Watts) but different cadences, on selected variables: anaerobic capacity, blood lactate level, and acids-bases balance. The relationship between blood lactate and anaerobic power was also investigated.Material and methods. Twenty-tree non-competitive male athletes, being the students from Academy of Physical Education participated in this study. They were divided into two groups. Each of them performed training sessions, which consisted each from five 3-minutes bouts of constant power output amounted 250 W, but of different cadences; group W80 (n=11) – 80 rpm, group W45 (12) – 45 rpm. The intermissions between the bouts were the same (2 minutes) for two groups. Wingate test were performed each Monday of the training period lasting 4 weeks, and of recovery period lasting two weeks.Results. After training period non- significant rise of peak power output were noted in W80 group (by 1.2%), and in W45 group (by 2.6%). Significant changes in mean power output were observed in W80 (by 6.1%) and in W45 (by 7.2%) two and one weeks after training session respectively. After training periods the means peak blood lactate for both groups, calculated from individual post-exercise maximal responses were significantly lowered, compared to pre-training condition; in W80 from 15.50±1.45 to 13.73±2.60 mmol/L, in W45 from 15.06±1.50 to 13.84±2.19 mmol/L.Conclusion. Both training regimens brought about significant alternations of anaerobic capacity. Blood lactate responses to Wingate, and anaerobic capacity does not depend on cycling cadence over training period.
