CHARACTER AND SPECIFIC FEATURES IN COMIC REPRESENTATION OF GAELIC REVIVAL IN «ULYSSES» BY JAMES JOYCE AND «THE POOR MOUTH» BY FLANN O’BRIEN

Abstract
The article deals with the character and specific features in representation of Gaelic Revival in «Ulysses» by James Joyce and «The Poor Mouth» by Flann O’Brien. The author distinguishes the techniques, used in the novels and, explores the differences of James Joyce’s and Flann O’Brien’s points of view on the national-cultural move. In particular the researcher closely studies the language humor, which is presented in the novels in many various ways. The main techniques in «Ulysses» include irony, parody, rarely hyperbole, whereas in «The Poor Mouth» the main techniques are hyperbole and parody. The object of James Joyce parody are the Irish theatre, patriots, figures of the Gaelic Revival, their views. The object of the author’s irony is the pathetics of their discussions. The characters of writers and literary critics of that period are caricature. The object of Flann O’Brien parody are spheres important for the Irish cultural life, language, church, Celtic folklore. A special attention is given to the question of the specific of James Joyce «hermetic humor» intended for the sophisticated reader, requires certain knowledge and Flann O’Brien’s comic is common carnival and intended for everyone.
