Characterization of crack parameters by the approach of virtual strain gages using a SENT specimen
Journal Title: Recueil de mécanique - Year 2018, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
The main objective of this work is to highlight the effectiveness of a numerical method proposed for the evaluation of the stress intensity factor (CIF), T-stress and the biaxiality parameter β, using virtual strain gage. This method is based on the optimal position of a virtual strain gage, located near a crack tip, so that the effect of the singular stresses is negligible in order to determine these parameters accurately. The calculations are carried out under conditions of static loading in tension on a PMMA single edge notched specimen (SENT). Simulations by the conventional finite element method are also performed and the results obtained are compared with those of the developed method. A good agreement has been observed between the results of this approach and those of experimental data and numerical calculations by conventional finite element.
