Abstract
The article discusses one of the alternative dispute resolution-mediation institutions. The purpose of this article is to determine the legal nature of a settlement concluded before a mediator in criminal proceedings. The code of criminal procedure (Criminal Code) has created an opportunity to send the cases to mediation, after a preliminary examination of the case brought by the public prosecutor or the police, this is after the indictment or application for conditional remission procedure. For the parties to mediation, it is important to determine the validity of a settlement concluded before a mediator. This allows them to become better acquainted with their rights and obligations. In the article, the legal nature of such settlement is considered in the light of the legal provisions in force.
