CHEATED EXPECTATIONS: DAILY ROUTINE OF 1917 ON THE PAGES OF PROVINCIAL NEWSPAPERS

Abstract
The main purpose of the article is to identify the specific trends of daily life in large cities of South of Russia in 1917. The analysis of materials in urban newspapers published during this period was used as a method of research. Newspapers are historically valuable as a source of information for researchers of social practices in the conditions of growing crisis in the political and economic sphere. The prevailing amount of information was gleaned from such newspapers as “Odessa News”, “Odessa Listok” and “Kiev Mysl”. The study of publications in these and other newspapers helped to organize the leading topics on which the attention of journalists and their readers were concentrated during 1917. The article traces the gradual nature of the changes in social psychology; the evidence of the deterioration of material conditions of the urban population documented; examples of social contradictions degree provided.
