CHILDREN OF EARLY AGE SUFFERING FROM PERINATAL DAMAGE OF THE CNS

Abstract

The main cause of child mortality is currently perinatal pathology, which is caused by gene mutations, chromosomal abnormalities and malformations arising from the pathogenic effects of teratogenic factors of infectious, natural, technogenic and pharmaceutical origin. Children with perinatal pathology of the CNS have a high risk of developing physical, intellectual and emotional disorders. The article is aimed at analyzing the main factors that lead to perinatal involvement of the central nervous system and the rationale for the implementation of adequate methodological approaches to comprehensive diagnosis of disabilities of psychophysical development of children suffering from consequences of perinatal CNS damage. The effectiveness of correcting the deficiencies of young children’s psychophysical development, despite the use of new methods of drug and non-pharmacological correction, remains unsatisfactory, which may be due to the diversity of etiological factors and pathogenetic mechanisms of the perinatal pathology of the central nervous system, alongside with an untimely diagnosis. The issues of timely and valid diagnostics of violations of perceptive-cognitive and psychomotor functions regarding the children of early age who suffer from perinatal pathology of the central nervous system remain urgent, still insufficiently resolved. The complex methodological approach to assessing the psychophysical development of young children suffering from consequences of perinatal encephalopathy should consist of the following blocks: 1. The medical unit with analysis of medical records, data collection on pregnancy and childbirth, early psychomotor development of the child, including doctors’ conclusion (psychoneurologist, ophthalmologist, otolaryngologist, endocrinologist, therapist, cardiologist, orthopedist) about the violation degree of the vital functions for the child's body, taking into consideration a physical and mental state of a baby and age-related regulatory criteria. 2. The psychological-and-pedagogical unit contains diagnostics of the real level of a child's development in terms of a state of perceptive-cognitive functions, psychomotorics, child’s emotional-volitional tone, as well as behavioral reactions. 3. The social block includes the definition of the social status of the family, including the quality of life in the family (social, socio-environmental, socio-economic, socio-cultural and religious aspects). Thus, the current direction of the research, such as the organization of the provision of comprehensive and timely medical-psychological-pedagogical assistance to children suffering from consequences of perinatal involvement of the central nervous system, in particular complex forms of disorders, is topical, but not sufficiently developed at present.
