Abstract
CROATIAN TRANSLATION OF THE HYMN "VENI CREATOR SPIRITUS" FROM THE LATE SEVENTEENTH AND MID-EIGHTEENTH CENTURY – A LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS The purpose of this paper is to present two versions of the Croatian translations of Veni Creator Spiritus hymn from the late seventeenth and mid-eighteenth century, and conducting their linguistic analysis to consider the likely origin of both translations from the same source. Grammar, spelling and lexis of these texts will be analyzed. The rationale for selection of texts is due to the fact that the period in which they were created is very important for religious Croatian literature. At that time, a lot of songbooks were created. In these song books you can find different variants of the hymns, such as mentioned above the Veni Creator Spiritus hymn. The texts discussed in this paper were taken from the most popular song books in the seventeenth and eighteenth century - Drmjanskiej pjesmaricy from 1687 and the third edition of the songbook cithara Octochorda from 1757.
