Journal Title: Miscellanea Historico-Archivistica - Year 2018, Vol 25, Issue 25
Abstract
Civitas monasterii Mariae Magdalenae Ordinis Premonstratensis. History of Bodzanów during the rule of Masovian princes. Bodzanów is currently a rural municipality in Płock county, Masovian Voivodeship, on Mołtawa river (right tributary of Vistula). The name of Bodzanów is probably related to the name of Bodzan, the first owner of the town. History of Bodzanów in the Middle Ages and modern times is inextricably linked with the history of Premonstratensians order outside the walls of Płock. The origins of the monastery of St. Mary Magdalene may be related to the Church of Holy Virgin Mary, founded in mid-12th century by Dobiechna, wife of Wojsław of Powała family, courtier of Prince Bolesław the Wry-Mouth. Bodzanów has received Chełmno type city rights in 1351 from Prince Bolesław III, and in 1415, Prince Janusz I has endowed the city with an annual fair, to be held on the day of the Pentecost. Subsequent Masovian princes have confirmed Bodzanów privileges. After the death of Janusz III (1526), the last of the Masovian Piasts, Bodzanów along with Wyszogród land was included in the Kingdom of Poland. The city remained the property of the St. Mary Magdalene Monastery outside Płock.
