Clinical and Pathogenetic Features of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Patients with Bronchial Asthma and Obesity

Journal Title: Гастроентерологія - Year 2015, Vol 4, Issue 58

Abstract

Due to comorbidity of bronchial asthma (BA) and obesity, there occurs the formation of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), in which changes of pathogenic links of the disease are observed. Objective of the study: to improve the efficiency of NAFLD diagnosis in patients with BA associated with obesity, by determining the correlation between indicators of cytokine immunity and fatty acid spectrum of the blood. When carrying out the work, we have examined 50 patients with BA, including diseases associated with obesity in 27 people. We have studied lipids and carbohydrates in the blood, the levels of interleukin-1, -2, -4, -6 and the total value of saturated, unsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. It was shown that combination of BA and obesity, which resulted in NAFLD, leads to the changes in lipids and carbohydrates of the blood characterized by hyperlipidemia and impaired glucose tolerance. Simultaneously, there are changes in cytokine link of immunity (signs of latent inflammation) and blood fatty acid spectrum, with the development of cell membrane instability and violations of eicosanoids production. This, in turn, leads to the continuity of the inflammatory process (its chronicity) and defeat of other organs and systems (in particular, cardiovascular) through the development of endothelial dysfunction. So, when BA is combined with obesity, there is NAFLD and a background to the progression of the pathological process.
