Clinical Evaluations of Bowel Continence in Post Operative Patients of Distal Large Gut Anomalies and it’s Correlation with Anorectal Manometry
Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Medical Research - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
Introduction: Anorectal malformation is a common congenital anomaly. Posterior sagittal ano-recto-plasty (PSARP) is an established technique for repair of these anomalies. Many post operative children have defecation disorders in post operative period. Study aimed to evaluate postoperative patients of anorectal malformations clinically and functionally by using scoring system and manometry. Material and Methods: 33 patients of anorectal malformations underwent PSARP between September 2007 and August 2009. All patients were clinically evaluated for bowel incontinence and underwent anorectal manometry periodically. Results were assessed using Kelly’s scoring system. Results: Out of 33 patients, 16 were male and 17 female. 18 patients were less than 5 years. 15 patients underwent clinical evaluation in less than one and a half years of completion of all stages of surgery. 4 of these patients had Kelly’s score less than 3 and other 11, more than 4. Of the remaining 18 who had evaluation after one and a half years of surgery, 5 had score less than 3 and remaining more than 4. Children with high anomalies had higher Kelly’s scores. As the age increased there was significant change of basal and max squeeze pressures. Conclusions: Patients with ARM, who were operated and assessed post operatively with Kelly’s score and anal canal basal pressures and max squeeze pressure, had direct correlation.

Prevalence of Congenital Anomalies with Possible Aetiological Factors
Introduction: Most of CNS malformations lead to death of fetus in utero or death in infancy or early childhood. They cause severe disability and patients have a short life span. In the present study, anomalies resulting...
Salivary Amylase as a Biomarker in Health and Periodontal Diseases
Introduction: Amylase is a key protein secreted in the saliva as a part of oral host immune response in periodontal disease. To detect its level according to the severity of periodontal disease, the present study was con...
Study on Comparison of Two Opioids IV Fentanyl with IV Butorphanol in Propofol based Anaesthesia to Attenuate Haemodynamic Response in Abdominal Surgical Cases
Introduction: Opioids when combined with propofol not only have a synergistic anaesthetic effect but also they successfully blunt the haemodynamic response to the noxious stimuli during surgery. Current study two opioid...
A Comparative Study of Intrathecal Fentanyl and Dexmedetomidine as Adjuvants to Bupivacaine
Introduction: Spinal anaesthesia is the most preferred regional anaesthesia technique. Present study was done to study the efficacy of Intrathecal Fentanyl and Dexmedetomidine with 0.5% heavy Bupivacaine for infra umbili...
A Comparative Study Between Virtual Bronchoscopy and Fibreoptic Bronchoscopy in Diagnosis of Lung Lesions
Introduction: Fibreoptic bronchoscopy (FOB) remains the best modality for evaluation of endoluminal and mucosal lesions; however, endoscopy yields no information about the extent of extraluminal disease or airway patency...
