Clinical profile of patients with non-traumatic acute abdomen at a tertiary care hospital

Abstract
Background: A progressive improvement in the mortality rate has been reported by adopting surgical line of treatment for acute duodenal ulcer perforation with introduction of antibiotics and relaxant anaesthesia mortality rate fall to 4% in 1953 to 2% in 1960 Methodology: After admission routine investigations namely Hb%, TC, DC, urine examination are more carried out. Relevant procedure like a plain x-ray abdomen was taken in some cases. In all the cases operative findings and postoperative diagnosis were recorded. Postoperative follow-up was done atleast 4month period to note complications and outcome with investigations for reflex. Results: Out of 100 cases the acute abdomen 78 cases were males, 22 cases were females. Of 42 cases of acute appendicitis male were 29, and females 13.Out of 48 cases of Hollow viscus perforation 44 were males, 4 were females. 4 cases were males in intestinal obstruction and 5 cases were females. Conclusion: In general, all types of acute abdomen have got preponderance in males.
