Common features of composite sentences of representation and appeal

Journal Title: Scientific journal «International Journal of Philology» - Year 2015, Vol 1, Issue 225

Abstract

Members of different language groups actively use composite sentences of representation (nominative) and appeal (vocative) as contextually conditioned units in the communication process. Their formally-grammatical expression, polyfunctioning and syncretism of the content are able to successfully display specific pieces of speech reality. The similarity and sometimes identity of some specific characteristics and properties bring together registered syntactic units of representation and appeal, at the same time defining the specifics of each variety. Different aspects of comparison of composite sentences of representation and appeal made it possible to establish a number of common characteristics: 1) both types are varieties of composite nominative constructions; 2) the main members of these sentences are expressed by direct conjunctions of the noun (nominative and vocative) and their function is related to the function of the subject; 3) analyzed sentences are structurally similar, sometimes even syntactically homonymous; 4) lexical-semantic filling of the main members is very wide; 5) functional-semantic varieties of composite sentences of representation and appeal realize, in addition to basic - nominative and communicative, moreover expressive, evaluative and stylistic features; 6) grammatical meaning is expressed by the same grammatical categories (predication, person, subjectivity, objectivity, gender, number, objectivity, price etc.); 7) logical stress falls to the nominative, vocative, less often to the attribute components; 8) types of sentences of representation and appeal in the context (within a paragraph) can take preposition, interposition, postposition; 9) can be used in various types of speech (monologue, dialogue, polylogue).
