Comparative analysis of histopathological presentation of lesions of testis

Abstract
Background: Although testicular cancer accounts for only 1% of all tumours in male, it is the most common malignancy in males between 15 & 34 years of age. Histopathological diagnosis helps in proper treatment and prognosis. Aim & objective : To study the tumours and tumour like lesions of testis with respect to the mode of presentation, relation to age and the histopathological features. Methodology: A retrospective (June 2002 to May 2005), prospective (June 2005 to May 2007) histopathological study of tumours and tumour like lesions of testis was undertaken in the department of Pathology. All the cases were classified as per the WHO classification. Comparative analysis with respect to age, mode of presentation& histopathology. Results: Testicular tumours constituted about 19.78% of male genital malignancies. Age group most commonly involved was 31 – 40 years of age. Testicular lesions were rare at the extremes of age. The maximum incidence of testicular tumours was in fifth decade. The maximum incidence of tumour like lesions of testis was in fourth decade. The commonest mode of presentation was scrotal swelling
