Abstract
Lipid abnormalities in patients with diabetes play an important role in development of atherogenesis. Diabetes is now commonly recognized as a coronary heart disease risk equivalent 1,2,2,4.This is mainly attributed to the high rates of dyslipidemia among diabetic patients which is believed to be one of the major factors accounting for the high percentage of deaths among diabetics due to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Lipid abnormalities in patients with diabetes play an important role in development of atherogenesis. Our study aims to compare the efficacy of atorvastatin 40 mg daily and rosuvastatin 20 mg daily and on alternate day. This prospective observational study was conducted in type-2 Diabetes mellitus patients who presented to the OPD in deparment of medicine between November2014&2015.A total of 300 patients were included in the study. The lipid parameters and fasting blood sugar parameters were significantly(<.001) reduced after treatment of 6 weeks. Hence forth the above study showed that Rosuvastatin 20 mg daily and alternate day was most effective in reducing the LDL-C when compared to Atorvastatin 40 mg daily.
