COMPARING CONTENT AND YIELDING OF OIL IN RELATION TO FERTILIZATION METHOD, CLASS OF EARLY SOWING, AND GRAIN TYPE IN CORN HYBRIDES

Journal Title: Żywność. Nauka. Technologia. Jakość - Year 2011, Vol 18, Issue 5

Abstract

The experiment was conducted at an Experimental Station in Sanok, owned by PWSZ, during a period from 2008 to 2009. The research material were four corn hybrids; they differed in early sowing terms (medium early sowing and medium late sowing) and in the type of grain variety (flint variety of ‘Ravello’ and ‘Arobase’, and dent variety of ‘Oldham’ and ‘Nekta’). Compared were the following agricultural engineering factors: mineral fertilization method, early sowing class of hybrids: medium-early and medium- late sowing, and, also, the type of ‘flint’ and ‘dent’ grain variety. In the samples of large grains (n>100) gathered, the weight of grain and of germ were assessed. The content of fat and fatty acid profile of corn oil were determined in the germs. It was found that, regardless of the grain type, the increase in the grain weight of the varieties analysed was highly significant and correlated with the weight of germ. The increase in the grain weight and in the germ weight decided on the increase in the oil yield per one unit area. It was found that the oil from corn germs was characterized by a high content of linoleic acid in the fatty acid profile.
