Comparison of crop yield potential and the impact of cutting height of canopy on the formation of harvest index of cultivars of winter oilseed rape

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2013, Vol 34, Issue 1

Abstract

In the years 2010–2012 two series of field experiments have been carried out in three southern Polish localities where the yield and value of the harvest index of two hybrid cultivars of winter oilseed rape Adam and Poznaniak were evaluated. The applied simulation used the canopy cutting height at 20, 40 and 60 cm. The mass and diameter of the lower part of the stem segments that•have remained in the field in the form of stubble were assessed. Production potential of winter oilseed rape canopy was higher in the western part of the country – Głubczyce. New hybrid cultivars yielded at a similar level. The cv Adam yielded higher due to a slightly larger plant density and greater number of seeds per silique and also had a higher rate of harvest index. Increasing plant cutting during harvest of winter oilseed rape optimize the rate harvest index in both cultivars. Increasing of cutting winter oilseed rape to 60 cm improved values of harvest index (g•g-1), respectively 0.079 (Adam) and 0.070 (Poznaniak). Higher losses of dry biomass of winter oilseed rape stubble, growing in season 2011/2012, and amounting to 4.03 t•ha-1 was found at the cutting height of 60 cm.
