Comparison of selected physical and mechanical properties of wet archaeological wood from the Neolithic age in the different restoration methods

Abstract

Comparison of selected physical and mechanical properties of wet archaeological wood from the Neolithic age in the different restoration methods. A specific characteristic of archaeological wood is its level of biodegradability. Tests were performed on a sample of wet archaeological wood from the Neolithic age. Three conservation methods were used in this work: impregnation solution of PEG 400, solution of sugar and lyophilisation. The humidity, colour, density, volume shrinkage and Brinell hardness of the wood were determined.
