Journal Title: Мова - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 23

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to specify the competence-oriented approach to professional and speech training intended for the future translators from Chinese in the pedagogics of higher school according to modern requirements and demands. The subjects of the study are the structure and the essence of the fundamental terms («competence» and «competency») within the approach which differ in their structural components and functions. Methods enabling the analysis of modern pedagogical research, etymological and comparative analyses are used in this research. Identifying the essential difference between the concepts «competence» and «competency», taking into account historical evolutional factors of the competence-oriented approach, as well as adapting them to professional and speech training intended for the future translators of Chinese are the findings of the research. «Competency» is understood as some specific (professional) prescribed normative basis, requirements to the professional and speech training of the future orientalists which are considered to be obligatory for qualitative productive translation activity. The term «competence» is defined as a person’s specific ability needed for effective performance of a certain kind of translation within a certain professional situation and based on his / her education level (knowledge, skills obtained during both educational and non-educational activities). There have been determined the criteria of professional and speech competence of a translator-orientalist: skills of cross-cultural communication-translation, the components of which are linguistic, communicative and speech, specific, linguosociocultural, and information and technological competences. The practical value of the research is to implement the results of the pedagogical research into the teaching / learning process in order to optimize professional and speech training of the future translators from Chinese so that they could easily orient in modern polycultural society.
