Complications after gynecologic surgeries

Abstract
The paper discusses selected complications after gynecologic surgeries on the basis of Evidence Based Medicine with particular emphasis on their prevention. The authors analyze risk factors associated with postoperative complications, perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis, intra- and postoperative hemorrhage, bowel obstruction, thromboembolic events and long-term implications of gynecologic surgeries. Moreover, advantages and disadvantages of laparotomy and laparoscopy are discussed. Surgical procedures are basic methods of treatment in many gynecologic diseases, and the task of medical staff is to minimize their adverse effects. This can be achieved thanks to knowledge about risk factors of postoperative complications, which enables one to implement optimal prophylaxis, and familiarity with diagnosing and treating complications.
