Compulsory insurance – selected economic aspects

Journal Title: Zarządzanie i Finanse - Year 2014, Vol 12, Issue 1

Abstract

Poland belongs to the group of European countries where the number of compulsory insurance policies is the highest. It relates in particular to the third party liability insurance of risks generated by performing various professions. Authors discuss some controversies connected with a large number of obligatory insurance policies, like moral hazard of the insured or constraints imposed on the consumers’ choice of goods and services purchased. The analysis of the range of compulsory insurance in various countries (mainly in the United Kingdom) led the authors to the conclusion that a reduction in the number of obligatory insurance policies should correspond to an increase in general consumption, and to more intense activities in the area of insurance consciousness.
