CONNOTATIVE MICROTOPONYMS OF THE UKRAINIAN CARPATHIANS

Abstract

The article analyzes connotative microtoponyms of the Ukrainian Carpathians. It was found that some geographical names are marked with the additional meaning, with some aura of expressiveness, emotion, evaluating characteristics. Today such names have priority in the field of art onomastics, but also found in anthroponymes and names, including microtoponyms. The purpose of the article is to depicture the connotative elements of the Carpathians’ space, to point the reasons, motives of these places’ nominations. In order to achieve the desired goal, it was planned to solve a number of tasks: to capture or detect a lexicographical sources or other connotative microtoponyms; find out the motives of their nomination; focus on the creating emotions means in mikrotoponymia of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The object of research is mikrolocals names (inhabited and uninhabited) corners villages, hamlets, on horseback, valleys, pastures, roads, wells and others. The subject of the work is the semantic potential and motivation level of connotative microtoponyms. The study tracked the greatest number of connotative names among popular loci. Microtoponyms motivators are identified as a rule like America, Cuba, Bethlehem being perpetrated by means of secondary nomination. Expressiveness of geographical names is embedded in the internal structure of words, or in some means that provide mikrotoponym pejorative or meliorative tone: Cheerful, Inferior, Love. Therefore, it is necessary to detect and interpret scientific connotative microtoponyms because they express the cultural potency people are a kind of symbolic names of the environment in which updated the depth of human knowledge.
