Constructive solutions of the bell tower of the re-created transfiguration cathedral in Odessa, Ukraine

Abstract
The Transfiguration Cathedral was founded and grew along with the City of Odessa. It became the largest temple for spiritual life for citizens within the NW Black Sea region in the early twentieth century. The Cathedral was destroyed barbarously in 1936 and the re-creation began in the first part of the twenty-first century by Odessa citizens and without financial borrowing. This article is about the experience of drafting and constructing of the first stage of re-creation of an outstanding lost object of the Ukraine’s cultural heritage – the bell tower of Odessa Transfiguration Cathedral. The history of formation and destruction of the temple, the basic architectural and constructive solutions of the reconstructed bell tower are briefly described, illustrated with photographs of construction and installation works and drawings from the sections «Architectural solutions», «Reinforced concrete structures» and «Metal constructions». The description of an automatic system of bells and chimes, photographs of their installation is given. The names of specialists who made a significant contribution to the re-creation of the bell tower of the Cathedral are mentioned.
