Journal Title: Monteverdia - Year 2019, Vol 12, Issue 1
Abstract
The assessment of various aspects of reproductive biology, allowed to establish precisions on the collection of seeds, necessary for conservation in Coccoloba cowellii Britton (Polygonaceae), strict endemic of the province Camagüey flora, Cuba, categorized as Critically Endangered (CR). The frequent occurrence of new shoots due to the emission of serpents and a 4: 6 ratio between functionally pistillated and staminated individuals is recorded for the first time, estimating in 60% the proportion of non-viable seeds, formed without prior fertilization. The need to identify the pistillate buds from the moment of flowering is based.
