Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2024, Vol 19, Issue 5
Abstract
This study is a conversational discourse analysis. It aims to analyze the four Sayings of Grice's Cooperative Principle, the 100 group conversations of Grade 10 respondents in a National Secondary School in Bais City. After a thorough analysis, the results are as follows: according to the nature of the structure of the group conversations, there are interrogative sentences with sense, grammatical errors, cutting or shortening, and deviating from the use of capital letters. Meanwhile, the analysis of the four maxims of Grice's Cooperative Principle is that the maxim of quality got a mean score of 3.25, which means Great, and the amount, relationship, and method are equally Great. Generally, it was proven that the respondents gave a positive value to learning through group discussions. So, the researcher can make the following conclusions: In the absence of "face-to-face" teaching due to the global pandemic, group conversations or group chats are a great help as an extension to the modality module. Thus, group discussions have become fully supported as an innovative method in the New Normal teaching platform in the Philippines. From the results of these studies, the researcher developed a proposed program to enrich conversational oral skills in modular teaching.
