Correlation between ApoE gene polymorphism, Hcy and coronary heart disease in T2DM patients

Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 8

Abstract

Objective To analyze the correlation between apolipoprotein E (ApoE) gene polymorphism, homocysteine (Hcy) level and coronary heart disease ( CHD) in type 2 diabetes mellitus ( T2DM) patients. Methods A total of 134 T2DM patients with CHD (CHD group) and 82 T2DM patients without CHD (CON group) were selected in Department of General Medicine, Xijing Hospital, Air Force Medical University from April 2020 to October 2022. SPSS 25. 0 was used for t test, ᅁ2 test and logistic regression analysis. Results The level of low density liptein cholesterol( LDL-C) in CHD group [(2. 91 ± 0. 81) mmol / L] was significantly higher than that in CON group [(2. 50 ± 0. 29) mmol / L] (t = 4. 406, P < 0. 05). The Hcy level in CHD group [(11. 30 ± 3. 96) μmol / L] was significantly higher than that in CON group [(8. 62 ± 2. 72) μmol / L] (t = 5. 383, P < 0. 05). Compared with CON group, the frequency of ε2 / ε3 genotype in CHD group was significantly decreased, while the frequency of ε3/ ε4 genotype was significantly increased ( ᅁ2 = 5. 980, P < 0. 05). The frequency of ApoE ε2 in CHD group was significantly lower than that in CON group, while the frequency of ApoE ε4 in CHD group was significantly higher than that in CON group ( ᅁ2 = 3. 947, P < 0. 05). Logistic regression analysis showed that Hcy (OR = 1. 275, P < 0. 05), LDL-C (OR = 2. 962, P < 0. 05) and ApoE ε3 / ε4 (OR = 3. 416, P < 0. 05) were risk factors for CHD in T2DM patients. Conclusion ApoE gene polymorphism, Hcy and LDL-C may be related to CHD in T2DM patients.
