Abstract
The article is devoted to the coverage of the little-known page in the history of the development of the Ukrainian diaspora culture in the United States, in particular the creative activity of the outstanding Ukrainian choreographer John Taras (Ivan Tarasenko). The research was carried out in the context of outlining the main tendencies and trends in the development of artistic culture, which determined its influence on the search for new expressive forms and means in the choreographic culture. The main factors of the formation of neoclassical choreography, which were initiated in the USA by G. Balanchine within the frameworks of the theater “New York City Ballet” were determined. The main directions and stages of creative activity of the Ukrainian choreographer J. Taras in the theater under the guidance of G. Balanchine are described. It has been proved that, being trained in the tradition of Ukrainian folk choreography, J.Taras combines elements of authentic culture and identity in neoclassical ballet productions of the world level.
