CURVILINEAR BUILDINGS OF OLD SMYRNA (BAYRAKLI)

Abstract
Old Smyrna was founded on a very small promontory located at the foot of Yamanlar Mountain (ancient Sipylos) on the northern part of the Smyrnian gulf and inhabited since the beginning of the 3rd millennium. Old Smyrna (Bayraklı) Mound is one of the most important settlements that uncovered in Eastern coast of Aegean Basin which has the Early Iron Age architecture. The architectural layers which begins from 10th century B.C in Old Smyrna, has two main structure types. One of them is quadrangle planned structures and the other is curvilinear planned structures. These simple structure plans have turned into complex structures throughout in 6th century B.C. The aim of this paper is to examine curvilinear planned structures in Smyrna that exist during this process.
