Abstract

The Annales School: Interpretations of time and history The article explores interpretations of fusion between “time” and “history”. These are defined as historical time; time in narratives of classical historiography; time in narratives of modern history, centered on an influential French school of history, The Annales School; and time as the subject in historical anthropology. For the representatives of the Annales School such as Jacques Le Goff and Aron Gurevich, time belongs to the historical category mentalité Similar to cultural anthropologists, these historians focused on Medieval period and investigated the meaning of time in terms of cultural differences.
