Degradation of Rhodamine B Using Divalent Cobalt Ion/Peroxymonosulfate

Journal Title: 河南科技大学学报(自然科学版) - Year 2018, Vol 39, Issue 5

Abstract

Divalent cobalt ion [Co (Ⅱ) ] decomposed peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to produce sulfate radical anion (·SO4-) , which was used to break down aqueous rhodamine B.The instantaneous concentration of rhodamine B was detected by using synchronous and continuous spectrophotometric technology with detecting frequency 12 s-1.The results show that the degradation rate of rhodamine B is 100% after 60 s at 0.021 mmol/L of initial rhodamine B concentration, 0.026 0 mmol/L of Co (Ⅱ) concentration, 0.260 mmol/L of PMS, 5.0 of pH value and 25 ℃.The degradation reaction process of rhodamine B follows pseudo-first order kinetic equation. The possible degradation mechanism of rhodamine B is speculated by using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to analyze by-products of reaction.
