Design and Test of by-pass Flow Type ECHPS Based on Electro-hydraulic Proportional Valve

Abstract
In order to solve the problem that hydraulic power steering ( HPS) system cannot keep balance between low-speed steering portability and high-speed steering road feel, the electronically controlled hydraulic power steering ( ECHPS) system with electro-hydraulic proportional valve of by-pass flow type was proposed.The driver preferred steering torque was obtained by experiment, and the equivalent steering resistance moment was achieved by simulation. The steering system parameters were optimized with the minimum quadratic sum of the difference between assist oil pressure at typical speeds and characterized assist oil pressure as objective function. The variable assist characteristics of ECHPS system were established. The design method of variable assist characteristics was verified by bench test. Then the control strategy of ECHPS system based on adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control theory was developed. The road tests of lemniscate steering and high-speed central steering with small angle were carried out. The results show that low-speed steering portability of the vehicle equipped with ECHPS system increases by 35. 3% and high-speed steering road feel increases by 52. 2%compared with HPS system.
