Experimental of Mechanical Effect Weakening of Acid-contaminated Red Clay in Guilin

Abstract

The representative red clay in Yanshan area of Guilin was selected as the test soil sample, and hydrochloric acid was used as the acid pollutant to prepare 3 different concentrations of acid solution. The hydrochloric acid solution mass fraction and the time of red clay in acid solution immersed were taken as the influencing factors to reveal the weakening mechanism of mechanical effect of acid polluted red clay. The results show that the compressibility of acid-contaminated red clay is enhanced, the shear strength is reduced, and the cohesive force is reduced. The weakening is more obvious with the increase of acid concentration and curing time. The mechanical effect weakening of acid-contaminated red clay results from the reduction of Fe2O3 and Al2O3, the increase of SiO2 content, the dissolution and ion-exchange of CaCO3 and MgCO3.
