DELAMINATION WEAR OF STEEL AISI 304 IN TRIBOCORROSIVE CONDITIONS
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 233, Issue 5
Abstract
The paper presents the results on tests of corrosive and mechanical wear (tribocorrosion) of stainless steel AISI 304 in solution of 3.5% NaCl. The experiments were carried out on a technical stand with a model pair type pin-on-disc. The stand was designed and implemented in the Institute of Machines and Motor Vehicles of Poznań University of Technology. After tests on friction in a sliding pair for the steel AISI 304 in a solution of 3.5% NaCl at a pressure 0.36 MPa and mean sliding speed 60 mm/s, imprints characteristic for delamination wear were observed. The results of tests were illustrated by microscopic photos of the surface of wear and a microsection along the friction surface. Additionally, the results of numerical simulation (stress distribution in the sliding contact and stress intensity factor) were included. These results confirm the possibility of cracking (initiated in the dislocation points) parallel to the fiction surface.
