Abstract

The paper deals with experience of studying peculiarities of the influence of language and geopolitical preferences in (de)legitimation of social order and polarization of preferences as to modernization of its principles in Ukraine. It has been established that the language and geopolitical preferences are predetermined by the factor of pro-Russian orientation. Two social categories as to the extent of pro-Russian orientation have been marked out: 1) Russia-oriented; 2) Europe-oriented. It has been revealed: a) numerical predominance of people with pro-Russian orientation over those with pro-European orientation during 2000-2013; b) 20% predominance of Europe-oriented people over Russia-oriented ones after 2013. There are divergences between people with pro-Russian and pro-European orientation: 1) inconsiderable differences as to desired models of property relations and regulation of economy; 2) non-critical differences as to preferred model of state-territory order; 3) high differences as to desired model of languages functioning and geopolitical choice. The predominant support of the way of reforms for modernization of Ukrainian society by these categories has been revealed.
