Journal Title: Postępy Nauk Medycznych - Year 2010, Vol 23, Issue 3

Abstract

Oral health is very important for patients with chronic kidney disease. Prophylaxis and effective treatment of inflammatory disease of oral cavity including dental caries and periodontitis significantly reduce subclinical inflammatory state, frequently encountered in this population, with its consequences. There are many stomatological pathologies in patients with end-stage kidney disease enhanced by severe clinical condition and comorbidities, including diabetes, impaired immune system, hypertension, oxidative stress, secondary hyperparathyroidism, malnutrition. In the review paper the most common stomatological pathologies found in patients with chronic kidney disease on conservative treatment and on renal replacement therapy are presented.
