Determinants of health-related behaviours of middle school students

Abstract
Aim. The report aims to study the determinants of health-related behaviours of middle school students. Material and methods. Sixty-nine students aged 13-15 years have been surveyed. The main method of the research was a diagnostic survey. Standarized research tools used were the following: Children’s Health Locus of Control by G.S. Parcel and M.P.Meyer, Scale of Social Support by O.S. Dalgard, Scale of Personal Competences by Z. Juczyński, the List of Personal Values by Z. Juczyński, Scale of Parental Bonding Inventory, some questions from international standard form called Health Behaviour in School-aged Children and author’s questionnaire. Results. This study showed that positive health-related behaviours of the surveyed students are influenced by high social support, the outside location of the control, strong ties with father and peer environment. Self-efficacy and strong ties with mother influence several health-related behaviours. Neither valuation of health nor school environment influenced the positive health-related behavior. Conclusion. Factors which influence health-related behaviours of middle school students are: health locus of control, self-efficacy, social support, family environment and peer environment.
