DEVELOPING MORAL VALUES AND SPIRITUALITY OF PRIMARY SCHOOLCHILDREN LAYS THE GROUNDS FOR FLOURISHING SPIRITUALITY OF HUMANITY

Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of developing moral values and spirituality of primary schoolchildren. The author underlines that morality is the result of a personality’s acquirement of moral values, understanding their essence and readiness to act guided by kindness, justice, love and beauty. It’s pointed out that moral sphere of primary schoolchildren is more complicated than intellectual, emotional or psychophysiological spheres, for the process of moral development includes the formation of self-concept, ordering one’s motives, and thinking is aimed at solving essential problems of being. Spiritual development of primary schoolchildren and formation of their value orientations are urgent issues of modern pedagogical sciences because moral values adopted by children aged from six to ten lead to successful development of other value systems, as the period of studying at primary school is immensely favorable for the formation of value spheres. This is the age when a child actively explores the world, starts telling good from evil, truth from lies, evaluates the rightness of his or her own actions or behavior of other people. That is why there is a growing number of specialists supporting the idea that, at primary school, together with granting children access to academic education, development of such moral values as love of life, honesty, kindness, justice, responsibility, is to be provided as well.
