Development of reading skills with dominant use of mobile technologies in teaching a foreign language

Abstract

The article examines the problem of developing students' reading skills under dominant use of mobile technologies in teaching a foreign language. The main objectives of students' professional training are set, such as the development and formation of reading competence. The factors of the success of training for professional reading in a foreign language are revealed, namely: the direction of teaching reading as a form of speech activity to solve certain communicative tasks of a cognitive or practical nature; direction of reading on obtaining information; using texts of real linguistic works for reading that have all the signs of text as a unit of communication; approximation of the tasks that students receive before reading texts to the real conditions; the professional significance of the text content and their attractiveness for students; directing reading to understanding and comprehension of the read. The article defines the level of formation of reading competence, potential reading situations in which a specialist may appear are also considered. Due to the analysis of recent researches of methodologists performed in the article, the reasons for lowering the quality of reading are revealed; the basic rules for selecting texts for reading are established, goals for the development of test tasks for reading texts are set. In addition, the main types of test tasks are offered for such types of reading as scanning, searching, skimming, and studying reading. The degree of maturity of student reading in non-linguistic higher educational establishments is determined. The difficulty in selecting and using tasks in teaching different types of reading is considered. Practical application of reading skills with the intensive use of mobile technologies is offered.
