Abstract
This research aims to develop a likert-type attitude scale for the course of “Traditional Turkish Classical Music”. In accordance with this general idea, a total of 40 students, who study in the Branch of Music Education in the Department of Fine Arts Education at the Faculty of Education in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University in the fall semester of 2013-2014 academic year, were asked to write a composition on their opinions towards the course of Traditional Turkish Classical Music. A draft scale consisting of 40 items, 26 of which were positive and 14 of which were negative propositions, was created based on the data of the research. The draft scale was delivered to the experts to secure the content validity of the scale. Having been edited in accordance with the feedbacks, the scale was applied to a total of 258 students, consisting of junior and senior students who are studying in the Branch of Music Education in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Balıkesir University, Gazi University, Konya Necmettin Erbakan University and Gazi Osmanpaşa University and have completed or are now pursuing the course of Traditional Turkish Classical Music. The construct validity of the scale was determined by means of factor analysis. The factor analysis utilized a principal-component factor analysis with varimax rotation. The internal consistency coefficient and item-total correlations of the scale were calculated and Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was found as α=0,929. Given these findings, it can be concluded that the scale of the Course of Traditional Turkish Classical Music is a reliable and valid scale.
