DEVELOPMENT OF THE CHILD’S COGNITIVE INDEPENDENCE AS THE (NON)APPARENT ACTIVITY OF TEACHERS OF EARLY SCHOOL EDUCATION

Abstract
In the context of the ongoing dynamic changes happening in our reality, one of the fundamental objectives of education at every stage of it is to develop students’ cognitive independence. To make the child show a research-like attitude towards the reality, to make her or him plan and predict, to solve problems and make independent decisions, the teacher’s actions oriented towards developing the child’s cognitive independence cannot be of the apparent character, i.e. they should actually lead to the achievement of designated goals. The article presents the results of interviews with teachers of early school education, whose aim was to establish the way of understanding the concept of cognitive independence and to examine the steps they take – in the declarative layer – to develop their students’ cognitive independence. Statements of the interviewed teachers have been analysed in terms of the inclusion of particular components of the attitude expressing cognitive independence.<br/><br/>
