DOMAIN OF SOCIAL WORK PROFESSION AND ASSESSMENT OF SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE IN TURKEY LEVEL

Abstract
Showing high proliferation tendency, Social Work is a dynamic profession, which targets humanity to enhance individuals’ social functioning through improving their life quality. The features of human oriented, practise based profession make Social Work distinctive from other professions. Being a multidisciplinary field, the domain of Social Work needs to be known well. Knowledge on the framework will serve as a basis to realize Social Work profession well. Professionalization process has been commenced together with the leadership of United Nations Social Welfare Commission and Ministry of Health and Social Welfare since 1957 in Turkey, and the first step has been made with 18 students, who were recruited through interview in 1961 in Social Work Academy. Especially, during the second decade of 2000s, graduates of growing number of Social Work departments function in various sectors such as justice, education, health, social security and social welfare. From this perspective, Social Work profession serves to increase social functioning of people in many fields across Turkey. The aim of this study is to set the framework of Social Work domain and assess Social Work practice in Turkey level.
