Abstract

Every year our nation needs 5 crore units of blood where as we get half the quantity of blood. So 50% of people do not get the blood or their products in emergencies. There cannot be a substitute of blood. Every 2 seconds somebody needs blood or their products. To fulfill the need we need 38000 blood donors every day. One unit of blood can save 3 lives. Wow what a gift we can give it to society. The average red blood transfusion need per day is 3 pints a day. Patient with sickle cell anemia, Thalessemia Major, Severe anemia, a plastic anemia, acute blood loss due to diseases or accidents, Thrombocytopenia due to bone marrow suppression, cancer patients needs transfusion. Blood and blood products cannot be manufactured in any industries or by any technological or biological aid. It is to be donated by a human being to other human being. Blood group O-negative can be transfused to any patient so they are universal donor. Plasma of AB-positive blood can be transfused to any individual. We have 5 liters of blood in our body and only 10% of it is tapped for donation which will automatically regenerated in body within 3 months time. A donor can donate blood for 4 times in a year and he will save 12 human beings. Blood constitute 7% of your body weight. Platelet donor can donate every 7 days. 30 millions of blood components are transfused in a year time. One should not receive blood of people who may be suffering from HIV, HCV Positive or Hbs Ag positive donors. Person having malarial fever, Syphilis, Dengue fever or viral infections in recent past should be discouraged to donate blood. Instead of shedding human blood on the name of cast, color, or religion a worldwide campaign has to be made for donation of blood and saving humanity. It is a true jihad a big war against the evil of diseases.
