Durability testing of tangential-rotary picks made of different materials
Journal Title: Mining – Informatics, Automation and Electrical Engineering - Year 2017, Vol 529, Issue 1
Abstract
This paper presents information on the current most-widely-used cutting heads; i.e., tangential-rotary picks. It describes their applications, design, methods for improving their durability, as well as problems related to their performance. The main body of the paper deals with the results of the durability testing of tangential-rotary picks made of different materials and hardfaced or machined in ways that lead to an increase in their durability. The picks selected for the tests were standard, commercially-available, and prototypical ones. The paper also presents a state-of-the-art laboratory test stand to research the cutting process or rotation drilling with the use of a single cutting tool or cutting drum (the property of the Department of Mining, Dressing, and Transport Machines of the AGH UST in Krakow).

Breakdown of hoisting machine in mining shaft hoist installed in southern section of R-II shaft of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. O/ZG Rudna
This article applies to a one-of-its-kind case of the cracking of the main shaft of a hoisting machine that occurred in the southern section of the R-II shaft of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. Oddział ZG “Rudna” in 2011. The min...
Monitoring and prediction of methane emission in the longwall and possibilities to control the longwall system
Monitoring systems which are applied in mining today are based on solutions developed in 1990s. The knowledge about methane emission from rock mass and goafs, occurring during the longwall-based coal cutting process, has...
Real-time operational control in information management system for flash-butt welding of rails
Operational control of welding quality is the fundamental element of the entire rail manufacturing process. In practice, real-time systems are used for this purpose. This article features a new method that makes use of f...
Systems and tracks of self-powered suspended monorails for transportation of people in horizontal workings and workings with inclination up to 45°
The article presents the number of transport systems and the length of the routes on which people are transported in Polish mines. A legal status in Poland and China and the guidance of the Regional Office of Arnsberg in...
Planning experiment for laboratory tests on rock abrasivity
The physical and mechanical properties of rocks (i.e., compressive strength, tensile strength, workability, or compactness) are often taken into account during the selection of a mining method and type of mining machine...
