Abstract
Discussing the problem of the Polish book market’s offering of children’s literature (Polish or foreign) devoted to the thanatological fi eld is preceded with an introduction concerning its perception and understanding, as well as changes that have occurred with regard to children (2-14 years old). The author focuses on analyzing contemporary therapeutic fables available on the Polish market, as well as other publications addressed at young readers whose aim is to present the subject matter of dying and death, coping with emotions, accepting the impermanence of human life and understanding the emotions of adults surrounding a child at the face of loss. The paper also discusses communication, narration and persuasion strategies present in this kind of literature. An additional thread of the article is a review of problems discussed in guidance publications addressed at adults willing to use thanatological literature aids in their work with children.
