ECONOMIC REFORMS OF EMPRESS MARIA THERESA IN AUSTRIA (1740–1780)

Abstract
The article analyzes the reasons, theoretical background and peculiarities of the economic reforms of Maria Theresa in the Austrian monarchy (1740–1780). it was determined that the ideological basis for the reforms of enlightened absolutism in the Habsburg empire was mercantilism and cameralism. The main focus is on reforming the system of economic management, finance, agrarian and industrial sectors of the economy. Justifying the ways of managing and fulfilling the tasks of the state, the theoretical lawyers defined the «general welfare» in the state as the most important goal. it is concluded that the economic reforms of Maria Theresa contributed to limiting privileges, modernizing the state and leading to its centralization.
