EDUCATOR’S TRAINING IN TEACHING CHILDREN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Abstract

Ukraine's integration into European space requires a good command of foreign languages, which will help to expand citizens' access to the world’s economic, social, educational and cultural opportunities. Nowadays the process of intensive implementation of teaching four- five-year-old children a foreign language into the practice of pre-school institutions is going on. And it’s not only fashion, but the requirement of the time, a necessary condition for comprehensive development of child’s personality. However, there is a contradiction between the real state and the demand of pre-school practice and the availability of pre-school specialists with the right to teach children foreign languages. The corresponding training of these specialists will provide an opportunity to receive a highly qualified educator who is able to implement completely the requirements of the basic components of pre-school education in Ukraine, in particular the content of the educational line «Foreign languages». The purpose of the article is to show the necessity to train educators giving them the right to teach disciplines in a foreign language, the conditions for improving the quality of their training, as well as to determine their role in the formation of self-guided learning activity of the children of the senior pre-school age. During the research there have been identified the main drawbacks in teaching pre-school children a foreign language, including: preservation of the secondary school traditions: to teach a language, not speech activities; school forms, methods and techniques of conducting classes in a foreign language, etc. The conditions facilitating the improvement of the quality of their training have been examined; they are as follows: to organize abroad traineeship for students alongside with informative meetings with foreigners – native speakers; to motivate students to study the culture of the people whose language they are learning; to increase quantity of hours for learning appropriate methods of teaching preschool children a foreign language and others.
