Effect of Borax on Moisture Absorption and Slag Removal of Sintered Stainless Steel Flux

Abstract

The stainless steel sintered flux containing borax was prepared by adding borax to the formula of austenitic stainless steel sintering flux, and the welding was carried out on austenitic stainless steel. The moisture absorption rate and slag removal of the sintered flux were determined by moisture absorption test and ball impact test. The effect of borax in sintered flux on the moisture absorption and slag removal of sintered fluxes were investigated. The surface structures of sintered fluxes and slags were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The influence of borax on the microstructure of sintered fluxes and slag was studied. The influence mechanism was analyzed. The results show that the addition of borax in the sintered flux leads to the formation of low melting point material on the surface of the flux. When the mass fraction of the added borax is 3%, the flux has the strongest moisture resistance. Borax significantly increases the slag detachability and improves the slag detachability of the flux. The slag microscopic surface gradually becomes smooth from unevenness. When the mass fraction of the added borax exceeds 3%, the three impact welding can be completely deslagging.
